Inauguration Ceremony of Radio Free Vietnam
Radio of Free Vietnam (RFVN) began broadcasting in 1997, reaching 500,000 Vietnamese listeners in the Southern California area. In the beginning, RFVN was only capable of delivering the voice of democracy and human rights to its audience 2 hours everyday on FM and AM frequencies.
began to broadcast directly to listeners within Vietnam via Shortwave frequency (SW). For the first time, an independent Vietnamese Radio Station is able to broadcast directly into Vietnam and all of Asia with up to the minute national and international news promoting the rights of freedom of opinion and expression - including the freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any medium regardless of frontiers.
